PLANNING OUR GREEN CORRIDORS

In acknowledging the importance of green spaces to people in urban areas, Council needs your help to preserve and enhance a network of high-quality green corridors.

Background

In acknowledging the importance of green space to people in urban areas, the Government Architect New South Wales (GANSW) has identified a network of high-quality green spaces known as the Sydney Green Grid.

These spaces connect town centres, public transport hubs, and major residential areas and keep the region cool, encourage healthy lifestyles, support walking and cycling, provide better access to open space, enhance bushland and support ecological resilience.

The Sydney Green Grid assessment process has identified three priority corridors as part of the Metropolitan Greenspace Project that are located within the Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government Area and Strathfield Local Government Area. These corridors include:

Cooks River Corridor – Canterbury- Bankstown Local Government Area (LGA) and Strathfield LGA

Sydenham-Bankstown Corridor – Canterbury- Bankstown LGA

Wolli Creek Corridor – Canterbury- Bankstown LGA

The aim of this project is to develop a strategy and shared vision for these three corridors that will in turn, create opportunities for greater social and ecological benefit.

Over the coming months, Council will be working closely with Government stakeholders, partner Councils, local businesses and residents to help shape the vision and identify meaningful opportunities for all three corridors. Council has engaged technical consultants ARUP to undertake the technical research required to prepare the strategy.
